NYC based artist Brad Kahlhamer has been active for over three decades. Irena Jurek and I had the opportunity to visit him in his Bushwick studio in February, where conversation included circles of laughs. The studio was inviting and I appreciated Brad's humble approach to his art. Brad was born in Arizona but grew up in Wisconsin where he earned his BFA. After moving to NYC in the 1980s, he was represented by Deitch Projects.

I couldn't help but click the mental link that ties his art to New Orleans. In light of the Native American symbolism shown throughout his work, one can easily envision Brad's paintings shown in a venue along side the city’s Mardi Gras Indian, Native Indian, African American, Creole, and Voodoo cultures. New Orleans is an amazing conglomeration of mixed ethnicities. It could use artists such as Brad!
