KAORUKO: Aromako

Juxtaposed with delicate flowers and Asian swamp grass, Aroma Moon depicts etherealized figures that crawl on water, encapsulating the rigidity of a table and chairs. Adorned with Kehinde Wiley like pattern, the open-deck structure in the middle ground is methodically balanced with an asymmetrical approach. But set in the foreground, the figures dominate the composition. They are not only enigmatic in their tilted gaze toward the viewer, but also the mystery lies in their bruised rouge, blue eye tones and opaque skin. The question is pending if these beings are intentionally lifeless and ageless. What brings these figures to a material, tangible world, however, is the near perfect composition of the figurative bodies, in addition to the trendy red brassieres, nail polish and thong. Also, this painting is 60 by 112 inches; the resolution of this photograph gives the painting some justice, but the work when viewed in person at the Mike Weiss Gallery is phenomenal in light of its’ gargantuan size, as well as KAORUKO’s refreshing approach to a Contemporary aesthetic.
